One of the items the Budget Committee has no oversight over is the SAU budget. The SAU writes the budget and the SAU Board rubber stamps it. The SAU Board just gave the highest paid employees of the school system across the board raises — again. Next year, they will give the new superintendent — who, after half a school year, does not yet have measurable academic goals and objectives — a significant raise for accomplishing…nothing.
Donna Green of Sandown and Jorge Mesa-Tejada of Hampstead are advancing a petition that will put the SAU budget on the ballot. This will allow taxpayers to modify the SAU budget in the future. I support this warrant because the SAU has to be held accountable for perpetual failure and the SAU Board has failed to do that.
Text of the petition follows
TO THE TIMBERLANE REGIONAL SCHOOL BOARD,
Per the privileges granted to us under RSA 197:6, the undersigned, registered voters of the Timberlane Regional School District, hereby submit the following article for inclusion in the 2013 School District Warrant:
“Shall the voters of the Timberlane School District within School Administration Unit number 55 adopt the provisions of RSA 194-C: 9-b to allow for insertion of the school administrative unit budget as a separate warrant article at annual school district meetings?” (Simple majority vote required.)
